Patricia Palmer

Patti's impressive nursing career involves a family centered care approach when caring for people diagnosed with cancer and blood related diseases including sickle cell. Patti always establishes ongoing individualized relationships with patients and their families. This support and care is often available and provided to colleagues who are diagnosed with cancer. She coordinates and facilitates monthly support group meetings for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and other blood related diseases. To optimize high quality care to all patients, Patti teaches and conducts clinical research to improve patient outcomes. Her most recent clinical outcome research has focused on reducing length of stay and improving patient satisfaction for patients receiving chemotherapy which has resulted in reducing the length of stay by two days. Patti represents nursing through her teaching at the local, state, national and international arena. She was the first nurse speaker critiquing research at the World Conference on Lung Cancer. She has received awards of excellence in Oncology Nursing, excellence in nursing research and has been chosen as the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
