Peggy Butrum-Griffith, BSN, RN

Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

Clarian Health, Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana

Jerry Bruce, Bone Marrow Transplant patient nominated Peggy for this award.

Jerry wrote: "I was on dialysis and organs close to shutting down. I wanted to die. Peggy sat with me, talking with me heart-to-heart most of that night. I credit her with saving my life! She is a special angel and was assigned to be my nurse not by accident since she was filling in on this unit".

Peggy's Clinical Manager on her normal unit, 3 South, is not surprised by her nomination. She stated "Peggy's strength is her ability to engage with every patient. A patient may be given the most horrific news of a terrible prognosis, and Peggy has a gift of being able to be with the patient. She is very deserving of this award."

Peggy herself responded to the award: "I am totally honored to be recognized, out of so many wonderful nurses. In the moments I am truly connecting with a patient, that's when I feel the enormity of being a nurse."
