Sonya Schuerger
Sonya is a skilled, caring nurse. She always makes sure her patients receive the best care possible. She always goes above and beyond. Two recent events: 1) She came in on her day off to transport a patient to Shands via ambulance. 2) She detected a serious change in her patient's condition and persisted in calling MDs even after being told no. She persisted and received a surgical consult. The surgeon immediately came in and rushed the patient to surgery. The next morning, the surgeon stated, "If it wasn't for his nurse last night, this patient would be dead right now." When she was commended for her action, her response was, "Isn't that my job?"
