Susie Dupont

Susie always goes above and beyond for her patients. One particular incident comes to mind. A few years ago Susie was involved in the care of a young patient who had been injured. Due to the circumstances of the injury, this patient was not able to go home with her family. Social services became involved, and unfortunately, were not able to find appropriate foster care at that time. The decision was made to temporarily place the patient in the care of the staff at the Catholic Charities Crisis Center. The child was going to be discharged into the care of a few police officers who were to transport her to this crisis center. Susie had bonded with this patient during her stay, and was upset with the realization that she would be discharged in the care of police officers who would provide a safe ride to the shelter, yet, were total strangers to this already scared and upset child. Susie requested to be involved in the transport of this patient to the shelter. Ultimately, Susie, along with the officers, took the patient to the shelter. Having Susie along made this transition less upsetting to the young, traumatized patient. Nominated by Amy Lewis, MS, RN, CPEN, Clinical Manager, ED, The Children's Hospital Denver.
