Valerie Jue

Valerie has always stood out as such an amazing nurse, and a kind hearted woman. Not only does she treat her fellow team members with respect and compassion, she also treats the patients and families the same way. Over the last few months Valerie developed a special bond of trust and compassion with a very ill patient and his young family. The patient had many different diagnoses which made his little body very fragile, and he was not likely to survive. The family was faced with the very difficult decision of continuing to treat the patient or to remove him from the methods sustaining his life. The parents were very young and uneducated about their son’s condition and decided to continue to treat his complications. When many nurses decided they could no longer ethically care for this baby, Valerie took on the challenge and gave him the best care imaginable, all while forming a bond of trust with his parents and educating them on their son’s condition in a loving and caring manner. The parents of this baby soon decided to withdraw life sustaining measures. It was a very sad and somber day in our unit, but Valerie needed to be there for this family who respected and loved her so much. That was one of Valerie’ days off, but Valerie didn’t think twice about being here to say goodbye to the sweet patient and support his family. Without Valerie, I am positive that these parents would have struggled even harder with their decision. She showed compassion that I can only hope to display someday. Valerie Jue is an outstanding Nurse and truly deserves this award. |
