Birthday celebrations are all about being with family. Tammy and her team helped make that birthday wish come true for a patient, who wanted her family, grandkids included, to visit.  But being on contact isolation made this request more challenging.

The patient’s nurses called upon Tammy Mercer in Infection Control for her expertise. Not only did Tammy help the staff prepare the room, she made sure disposable isolation gowns were available for the family. To top it off, Tammy bought a card for the patient’s care team to sign, along with a special gift. “The patient and her family were very happy,” the nominator said. “We probably wouldn’t have allowed the family in the room without Tammy helping to coach us and get the right supplies to make it safe.”
