1LT David Grimm cared for my husband, several times between October 2014 and February 2015 as he was being treated for Stage I V Metastatic Colo-rectal Cancer. He took extra care to ensure that each hospital stay was filled with smiles, extraordinary care, and most of all compassion.

ILT Grimm would do all he could to make my husband feel as if he had a friend looking out for him. He brought in movies from home for him to watch on his portable DVD player. He and his wife, Erin, an ICU nurse, shared family photos with us. My husband spent his 50th birthday in the hospital. Along with family, friends and some of the other ward nurses and staff, he celebrated his birthday with me.

ILT Grimm took care of my husband as if they were brothers. He made sure he was as comfortable as possible, and when he had a spare moment, he would stop by for a visit. He and Erin treated us like family. I could see how much it meant to my husband when 1LT Grimm entered his hospital room. Whether it was to bring him his food, take his vitals, draw blood or just to say hello, he would get the biggest smile on his face. He truly trusted ILT Grimm and was comforted by his presence. He called ILT Grimm his 'buddy'.

My husband knew 1LT Grimm cared about his treatment, and wanted to make sure he got the best possible care. As we prayed daily for healing and comfort, lLT Grimm was one of the primary nurses who provided that comfort. On the day my husband passed away, LT Grimm was there. I don't even remember if he was assigned to take care of my huband but he was glad his "buddy'" got to spend some time with him that day.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the care ILT Grimm gave my husband. He was a ray of sunshine for us. I believe God places people in our lives at certain times in our lives to bless us. 1LT Grimm is an exceptional nurse who went above and beyond. Even though my husband passed away from his illness, I know his times in the hospital were better because of the great nurses he had.

1LT David Grimm was one of those nurses. From the bottom of my heart, I thank him.
