I arrived at the OB department early in the morning to be induced. This was my third child, so I knew what to expect, or so I thought. Abbey met me at the desk, took me to a delivery room, and got me all settled in all while being very kind and caring. She explained everything to me, asked a lot of question about what I wanted or what I needed and was just enjoyable company. A few hours into labor and right after my water broke Abbey had to break the news to me that due to low platelets I couldn't have any pain medication epidurally. That was not my plan, and I started to panic. Plain and simple, I was scared. But Abbey wouldn't let me go there. She was so calm that I started to feel calm. She told me I could do it, and she'd be there every step of the way. Anytime I felt panic rising, she'd look at me, comfort me with touch, and remind me I was a strong mama. She quietly talked to me between contractions and pushes, giving me the strength to keep going. My son's birth was an amazing experience, and Abbey was a huge part of that. She will forever hold a special place in my heart for the role she played that day.
