Abby always strives to give her patients compassionate and individualized care. In this instance, her patient was a deaf man. After her first day caring for him, Abby was frustrated by her inability to communicate basic things with him. That night she went home and taught herself some useful phrases in sign language so that she might be able to communicate about basic needs with her patient in a more personal way. The patient was so surprised and touched that she had taken the time to learn his language. This is just one of the many ways that Abby goes the extra mile to recognize the unique aspects of every single patient she cares for.
