My mother was a patient in the MRICU and passed away in August. Alan was her nurse that day and I left there feeling as if my mother could not have had anyone more kind or caring to help both her and her kids during the hardest day of our lives. Alan never once made us feel like this was just a job to him. He was right with us every step of the way that day explaining what was going to happen so we would understand, talking to my mom instead of about her, comforting us along the way. He listened to our stories about Mom and talked with us like he was an old friend instead of people he had met for the first time that morning. He even printed out sections of her heart beat so we could all have that little piece of her when we left for the last time. Over the course of the month that my mom was hospitalized I never ran into a nurse who made me feel like they cared the way that Alan did. He truly is a gift to your MRICU and the families that he deals with. I hope that Alan gets to read this so he knows what a wonderful person he is. To make people feel that he cared for not only his patient but the family too is a gift that not many people have. Hats off to you, Alan, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for making the worst of days bearable. I will never forget having met you. Thank you.
