Amanda Mulvey, RN, a staff nurse on the Critical Care/Heart Failure Unit (5W) was honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
Amanda was nominated by both a Jefferson medical student and a Cardiology-4th Year Fellow. Each wrote very special letters about Amanda. Here are excerpts:
Amanda is a patient advocate through and through, the physician said. One of her patients was due to go to surgery on a particular day, but the surgery kept getting bumped because of other emergencies. Amada called the OR throughout the day to get regular updates on the status of her patient's case and regularly updated the family members who were waiting for their loved one to go to surgery.
When Amanda finally received the update that the case was cancelled for the day, but couldn't be promised a space on the OR schedule for the following day (a Friday) because the OR schedule was already made, she promptly got on the phone with the OR and the surgical subspecialty service to advocate for her patient. Thanks to all of Amanda’s hard work, dedication, and persistence, her patient's case was pushed forward and he received the surgery that he required promptly. Way to go Amanda!
The medical student added:
Everyone was very impressed by Amanda’s actions and expressed their support. I truly feel that Amanda should be recognized on a higher level for going above and beyond for the care of her patients, especially when they are unable to do so themselves.
