We came to Norton Audubon for a Heart Cath. My husband needed to be cleared by his cardiologist for kidney surgery. Instead of the stent placement, which is what we were expecting, my husband was heading for bypass surgery. The doctor informed me that he would have to do a quadruple bypass. When they informed me that his heart was in the worst shape it could possibly be, I thought I had heard the worst. But then they called me to come to his room immediately. He had begun to have seizures and the doctors were worried that he would have another stroke. Fortunately, the CAT scan showed he did not have a stroke. After a long night of my husband being in extreme pain, we were moved to another unit, where we met Amber. I was exhausted and an emotional wreck. I was so thankful for this nurse. Not only did she provide care for my husband, but she also cared for me. She is the kindest, most empathetic, encouraging, competent, compassionate person that I have had the honor of being around. Amber not only helped to heal my husband's heart but she healed mine as well. The following day my husband had to be rushed to the OR to have a stent placed for the kidney stones. Amber once again was his nurse. I was so happy to see her. She offered constant encouragement and compassion through yet another discouraging experience. Amber helped solve the mystery of my husband's excruciating pain. It was her tenacity the previous night and her knowledge of the medical profession, that alerted the doctors to scan his back, which showed his kidney stone blockage. She celebrated our small but huge milestone, with us by walking my husband down the hall. It was the start of a very long road to recovery but the knowledge and words of encouragement from her will help us on our journey. Thank you Amber!
