I am a Nursing Care Technician in the Float Pool here at IMMC and I have worked with Amelie on a number of occasions. Most recently I worked with Amelie on 9 Stone. I was the sitter for one of her patients. Over the course of the night, I was witness to some of the most exemplary nursing care I have witnessed.

Like all the nurses at our hospital, Amelie was extremely busy that night. However, she still took time to listen to her patient and make him feel cared for. The patient from that night had special needs which reached beyond physical nursing care. Amelie understood that fact and exhibited a level of compassion and genuine concern for the patient's well being that no doubt touched his life and has also become an inspiration for me in my career.

At one point the patient told her a story about his employment situation. Like many people today, he is going through a tough time. She listened to him and, as his story went on, she never made any excuses for having to leave or said anything to rush him along with his story. When the patient was finished telling his story, he was less anxious and seemed to be much happier.

Later on that night, Amelie brought the patient his medication. The patient was nervous and anxious about what he was taking. She not only explained his medications one by one, as any nurse should, but she also took the time to put his mind at ease and made sure the patient was comfortable with his choice to take the medications. Afterword, there were still some questions she couldn’t answer for the patient. She then told the patient that she would do some research and find out the answers for him. Sure enough, a while later she came back with some information she had printed-out. She did a great job of educating the patient which further put his mind at ease.

Amelie also did an exceptional job communicating with the patient's doctors. Twice, when the unit clerk informed her that the patient's doctor was on the phone, she literally ran out of the room to take the call.

For this night specifically, I am nominating her for a DAISY Award. But I would like to make it clear that this is how Amelie conducts herself every time she works. I have brought up her name to many of my coworkers and they all agree that she is one of the best nurses at this hospital. She is truly one of Illinois Masonic's greatest assets.
