There are those nurses you meet in a lifetime that simply have the "shine" and this is one of them!
This OR nurse takes her compassionate care and clinical skills outside the walls of Doctors Hospital to care for those people with limited access to much-needed care and surgical procedures. Since 2009, Amie has recruited co-workers and healthcare team members from all areas to help deliver surgical procedures and care. She has organized and coordinated numerous trips to Peru where teams of physicians and nurses (from DH) worked tirelessly for a week caring for people in the remote villages of Peru where surgical care was not available. Her efforts enabled countless children and others to have much needed surgical procedures.
Her volunteering did not stop in Peru. In 2017 she traveled to Haiti in August and October with the BHSF surgical team to assist with surgical procedures and render compassionate care for the underserved of Haiti.
Most recently, I had a friend visit Doctors Hospital for a surgical procedure and she mentioned the amazing OR nurse who came to see her after her procedure. My friend was extremely touched by this nurse who took care of her during her procedure and found time afterward to check on her and extend best wishes for her recovery. She described her as tall, thin and sweet. Yes, I knew who it was, but I followed up to find out it was indeed that same nurse who delivers compassionate, quality care here at DH and across the globe. In fact, she follows up on almost all of the patients she cares for in the OR.
Amie Roberts delivers extraordinary clinical skills and compassionate care every day here at DH and gives back to those less fortunate outside the walls of DH to make a difference for those less fortunate.
