"My grandmother is in the final stages of Huntington's disease, which is very hard on all of us. Andre has been an amazing help in keeping us calm and collected and making sure my grandma is as comfortable as possible. He's even brought my grandpa coffee on several occasions. Being a nurse is tough, and you can tell Andre loves his job."

Andre sent a message of thank you to his patient's granddaughter and she responded,

"Hello Andre! I'm so thrilled to hear that you received the DAISY Award for May. You deserved it more than anything. You made my family feel comfortable, confident, and most importantly, loved. Sadly, both of them passed away. My grandfather passed away on April 20th from a heart attack. He strained himself too much changing my grandmother by himself. He went very peacefully, in his home, reading the newspaper. He felt no pain, and went on his terms: protecting his wife through sickness and in health, until death did them part; it's been a difficult time for us, but we know he is not alone, as my grandmother passed away six weeks later. She suffered for a very long time. Thanks to your help, she did not go from what put her in the hospital. She went on her own terms, surrounded by people she loved, with the intention to not keep my grandfather waiting. It touches my heart that his dedication to her inspired you to be the wonderful nurse you are, Andre. My grandfather loved and enjoyed your company and support through the toughest time in his life. He talked about you a lot when we reflected on that time, and how you'd always bring him a cup of coffee. Andre, thank you so much. I am so glad you received the award, and I'm so happy this will help you advance in your career."
