Back in August, a patient and his wife were here at Hahnemann. The patient was advised early in the morning hours that he was going to be admitted to the floor. The patient's wife advised the ED staff that her husband suffers from PTSD, and it would be best if she could stay the night with him so she would be there for him if he started violently screaming or became enraged. The patient was told he would have a roommate when he was admitted to the floor, so his wife could not stay. However, when they arrived to the 17th floor, nurse Andrea arranged for them to stay together by finding a room without another patient. She offered the patient's wife the second bed to sleep in, which she was very thankful to have as she normally would sleep in an uncomfortable chair. Andrea made sure she did not leave the patient's room until both the patient and wife were comfortable and made sure all their needs were met (food, drinks, blankets). Andrea was incredibly professional at every turn and went above and beyond what was required.
