I have been remiss in not getting to you earlier regarding R's (and my) stay at TGH. There are about a thousand memories from our stay of which I am extremely thankful for your team. From the Operating Room experience through the discharge process, every staff member we encountered was professional and empathetic, knowledgeable and helpful.
R doesn't really remember most of his stay, although I remind him frequently of the challenges and victories he had when he was there. And also of the challenges, he posed for your staff. (Yikes, there were many). In spite of his "Dilaudid behavior" and the confusion/fog he was in for most of his stay at TGH, each member of your team was there to guide us through a frightening and exhausting process.
In the ICU, Andrew RN was re-named by R, "Cool as a Cucumber Andrew". Andrew was so professional and dedicated to both R and me. He taught, had patience, chuckled at my embarrassment when our patient had bad behavior, and non-judgmentally cared (truly cared) for R through the fog of the ICU days. When R had a bad morning, and after a dream, pulled out his lines and trach cannula, Andrew responded with the step-down team to re-orient, re-focus and calm R's fears. R was impressed that Andrew was the "only one who wasn't worked up or nervous" about to condition they found my R in that morning. I would like to thank Andrew from the bottom of my heart for his compassion and sense of humor through the tough days.
