April Wach, BSN, RN is involved in multiple hospital committees and improvement projects to include Nursing Professional Shared Governance, Nursing Excellence Council, Patient Flow, ED Clinical Operations, Admission Process project/ Kaizen. She is a member and active in professional groups such as ENA and SC Organization of Nurse Leaders. She is the recipient of the Palmetto Gold Award, the highest recognition in our state. She earned her BSN this year while working full-time. April encourages communication between staff and departments. She is wonderful with patients' and families' concerns and grievances.
April sets the example for all of us and is committed to providing amazing care for all patients. She has taught me to look outside the box for resources to offer our patients. I have never witnessed care like this in my nursing career. She pushes us to use evidence-based practices for better outcomes for our patients. She encourages staff to resolve issues among staff and steps in as needed.
April is encouraging and understanding. She raises money for staff when needed, recognizes High 5s and shares letters written to the ED thanking the staff. She provides incentives and rewards to motivate staff. She always goes above and beyond - from funerals to birthdays, graduations, showers, and other special events she is a very present leader and gives our unit a feeling of family. Compassion should be her middle name, as I have never met a more compassionate person.
April works to cover shifts when staffing is short. She continually updates and puts to use current and new practices. She works to pass legislation, most recently to protect health care workers from assault. April is involved in community projects such as Toys for Tots, United Way, and various outreach programs. She always goes above and beyond. She has motivated us to better ourselves and advance our careers, return to school, and earn TNCC certification. She is passionate and enthusiastic and it is contagious.
I truly have not had a manager like April. She is selfless, motivating, outgoing, fun and professional at the same time. When my son came in with a concussion, she jumped in to help with my patients so I could be with him. She cared for my son as if he were her own. She sets an excellent example and has made me a better nurse!
