Art is an outstanding charge nurse. He exhibits a caring nature with patients, families, as well as the well-being of his co-workers.

Art has excellent judgment skills. He is able to quickly assess situations and make decisions that will benefit the welfare of the patients as well as the unit. A prime example occurred several months ago with a male visitor who had brought his five year old daughter for a supervised off-unit visit with her mother. The gentleman had stated and gestured that he had brought his service revolver with him. I explained that guns were not allowed in the hospital and he would have to lock it up in his car. The gentleman argued that this rule does not apply to policemen. I notified Art, and he asked me to call Public Safety. When the Public Safety officer arrived, the gentleman told the officer that he did not have his weapon. The officer did not ask the visitor to remove his jacket nor did he ask to look in the visitor's locker. Again, I notified Art. He came out to explain to the visitor the unit policy regarding weapons and that the patient would not be coming out to visit until we could be sure that there is no threat of potential danger. Not only did Art maintain his professionalism, but he demonstrated a respectful and courteous behavior to the visitor as well.

Art relates to, and works well with, all levels of personnel. He is a true team player, and is an awesome nurse to work with. His actions depict that all tasks are everyone's tasks, no matter what your title is. Art demonstrates this by monitoring patients during mealtimes, cleaning up the lounge before visiting, and escorting visitors onto the unit.

Art is a great asset to Behavioral Health and to Advocate Health Care. To work with him is a pleasure.
