Ashley was recognized by the family of G via the family stopping in my office a few weeks after she passed. They gave me a card to let me know how wonderful Ashley was to them.
G was born with severe Hypoxic-Ischemia Encephalopathy. It was apparent very early that she would not survive due to the severity of the Ischemia. During their stay on the unit and during their time of bereavement, Ashley went out of her way to make sure the family was comfortable. She made sure they were fed (pizza and soda) and that they had an extra room to stay in as their families said their goodbyes. They also commented on how touched they were that Ashley put G in a beautiful gown after she passed. This meant so much to them, as their family members got to meet and say goodbye to her.
Many of Ashley's peers also spoke to me about how gentle and compassionate Ashley was with this family. She is everything a NICU nurse and MLH associate should be. She exemplifies all of our core values when she cares for our patients, but excels in the core value of service and dignity to our patients and families
