Ashley helped take care of my Daddy for several days during his week-long stay in the ACE unit at Palmetto Health Richland. What a wonderful staff - everyone was so very caring. Ashley went above and beyond - and taking care of us was no small job. My brother, mother, and I took turns staying with Daddy 24/7 throughout his hospitalization from Sept 12th - Sept 19th. This did not make the staff's job any easier with the endless questions and concerns we had.

Ashley was a constant calming presence. She made sure to treat Daddy with dignity - like he was in charge of his care at all times. She never gave him medicine, performed a cath, or anything else without first telling him what she was doing and making sure he understood. She was patient beyond measure and earned my Daddy's complete trust - not an easy feat - and he shared information with her about his illness that he had not even shared with us. She performed her job with excellence and professionalism. She was very efficient and effective in performing her duties, injections, IVs, caths, etc. Daddy said more than once that Ashley caused him the least amount of physical pain of any of the nurses who cared for him. She gave us her undivided attention when she was in Daddy's room and never lot on that she was busy or rushed. She stayed late more than one night to make sure Daddy was completely taken care of rather than leaving a task for the night nurse to do later. She listened, never rushing Daddy or making him feel like he was bothering her. Selfless is the perfect word to describe Ashley while she was on duty. She was open, honest, caring, compassionate, and genuinely concerned for the health of my Daddy and the well-being of our entire family. During the most difficult time of our lives, Ashley was a comfort to us and a provider of peace of mind.

We knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that she would do everything in her power to make sure Daddy was safe, comfortable, and completely cared for, both mentally and physically. I have no doubt that there is no nurse more deserving of the DAISY Award and all that it stands for than Ashley.
