Beckett, without question, is a skilled member of our PCU team, but what stands out even more is her attitude and caring. She is always upbeat, friendly to all, and professional in all of her interactions with patients, families, other staff, physicians, and nursing students.

Beckett has received 2 Catch Me’s in a three week period from patients. Following are the excerpts from these Catch Me nominations……..

“great, very attentive, prompt in her response, and courteous”

And, from a Gift Shop volunteer….

“On this particular Sunday afternoon in the Gift Shop, my chronic back pain was so severe it was almost impossible to hide. A nurse came into the Gift Shop and immediately noted my discomfort. Her name is Beckett and I had never met her. She was so kind and caring. She asked me many questions and made her very professional decision that I should go straight to the ED. They found new spine issues and if not for Beckett they would have been missed. Beckett still faithfully and lovingly checks on me (happened in August 2010). She is an angel with a heart of gold….she is an amazing nurse and person…..I cannot think of a clearer impact of caring….”

My final example involves patients more indirectly, but demonstrates the same compassion. After a fatal skiing accident that involved very close friends of several RNs on duty in PCU, I began to call staff to ask them to work and relieve the affected nurses. The first person I called was Beckett, simply because her name was first on the list. Without hesitation she said she would get ready and come in immediately. She told me she could understand their loss and knew they needed to be able to leave work. I was so amazed that Beckett, while very emotional about the situation, cared enough about her co-workers and the patients to come in and help.

I cannot say enough about the caring that Beckett shows to her patients and everyone that she interacts with. She is truly a DAISY nurse!
