Critical care had a young, critically ill male patient who was not responding to treatment. Ben Friesen was caring for the patient and his family. He kept pushing for a new therapy that we had not done at EGH yet - proning a patient. He got the approval and he rallied help to get the patient onto the proning bed. He was meticulous in being sure the airway was intact, all skin was protected and that the family was apprised of all happenings. Ben was comforting, calm, and developed a great rapport with the family. He exhibited true clinical expertise and was a true patient advocate. He made the family feel like they were part of the patient's care and made them feel secure and confident in our care. This patient rapidly improved and was taken off the bed 48 hours after being placed on it. He continued to improve and made a full recovery and walked out of the hospital!

Ben is always compassionate, he is passionate about his work, and makes a true difference in the lives of all patients' and families he cares for.
