I would like to nominate Beth Deopere for the DAISY award. My father had suffered a stroke and was a patient at Illinois Masonic Hospital. He was admitted on 17 Feb and discharged on 19 Feb, 2010. Beth was the nurse on duty when he was brought to the 8th floor and was there most of his stay. My father is elderly and is not used to being in the hospital so it was a struggle to get him to stay for treatment. Beth was an immeasurable help in this regard as she explained everything that was going to occur and the times. Her knowledge of his condition and her ability to answer my questions in layman terms was invaluable. She was extremely compassionate and adept at easing his worries and making the stay tolerable. She would take the extra step to calm him or speed requests for procedures when she could tell he was getting agitated. We never felt that my father was one of many patients she had to take care of, but the only one. I could go on as to Beth’s qualities, but my father said he would go back to Illinois Masonic Hospital and Beth was a major part of the reason and that speaks volumes. Please express my gratitude to her. Thank you.
