Our extraordinary nurse is Beth Hilbelink. I took my son to see his doctor for him acting differently and not eating or being able to wake up. B's doctor decided to do blood work, spinal tap, and a urine culture. After collecting his urine, she took him back to a room to do the spinal tap and blood work. His temp was already low at 95 degrees and after laying naked in a cold room his temp dropped to 93.3 degrees. When we were able to go back they told me to put him skin to skin to warm him up.
Beth and the team arrived at the office not long after we were allowed back. Beth came in, took complete control of the situation, started trying to give B his IV while in the process B stopped breathing. She got him to start breathing again, was able to get his IV, had to work against B's doctor's office to get the paperwork for us to sign. On the way back to Children's, B continued to stop breathing and Beth had to put him on the vent while parked on the side of the road. Beth was B's own personal angel. This story may not sound too heroic or extraordinary on paper, but I know Beth saved my son's life and if it wasn't for her I probably wouldn't have my son. In my eyes, she is the most extraordinary person I know.
