During rounds with staff, our leadership team has been asking for a positive story of any kind. Just a little something to remind us of the good we experience. Bethany Roth told me this beautiful tale (this is paraphrased): I had a really great satisfying day yesterday. I had a patient come in who had schizophrenia and needed a colostomy bag change because it had broken and the contents had gotten all over. I had so much fun cleaning him up (she is literally beaming with a smile from ear to ear while telling this). I love being able to provide nursing care to people like this. He needed hygiene, food and some new clothes and I can give him that. I went and got new clothes from the clothing closet. I picked out a t-shirt with skull and crossbones. When I walked in with it, he was so excited "I love that shirt!" It was so satisfying to provide care to him and be able to find him something he liked and wanted to wear. I felt so good I went home and told my wife about it. Bethany's story of a positive experience was something most people would cringe at the thought of needing to do. She found joy and satisfaction in the humanity and kindness she was able to provide for this man. I left my rounds feeling full of pride. Bethany is exactly who we want taking care of our patients and our community. She is the nurse you want on your team.
