I want to recognize Ms. Bindhu Varghese working as a Charge Nurse in NICU, for the following:
Behavior perceived as extraordinary
She creates an environment that fosters care and compassion
Creates an environment where attributes of trust, compassion, mutual respect, continued professional development and ethical behavior are modeled and supported
Motivates staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes for themselves and for their patients
Accessible, available and responsive to the needs of others, encouraging critical thinking and problem solving for individuals with the contexts of teams.
Pillar of knowledge
Works as a nurse preceptor and helped establish our team members. Her compassion penetrates well beyond the bedside. She has the amazing ability to connect with families. She is a strong advocate for her tiny patients and skilled with the beautiful ability to maintain relationships.
Collaborates with physicians and helps nurses to have the most effective working relationship possible. She advocates to physicians, for the bedside nurse, helping them to understand a bit more about what we do. She helps to clarify our role to each other. A prime example when we did not understand a policy, and yet the physician who instituted it did not understand why we were confused by it. She helped the nurses to see how the physician is accountable in his practice and helped him to see how we are accountable in his practice and helped him to see how we are accountable in ours. It was an eye opening experience!
Helps us to identify areas where we can improve and helps us make a plan to do so. She works through examples and regularly checks charting and debriefs with this nurse. Additionally, she gets reps in to talk to us about products so we are using them correctly.
Takes time to go through the stock and helps ensure we are always prepared for the next shift. Recently, we ran out of 10 cc flushes, and she ensured we had a substitute available. Also, we did not have 3 cc syringes, which we use for meds, and she worked to get them back. Personally, she has kept me updated on analysis of sepsis, CPR, CLBSHI and pressure ulcers. NICU benefits immeasurably by her support, which is passed on to patients who then receive clinically competent care.
Ms. Bindhu Varghese is a leader in NICU with her calm and efficient manner; her approach is genuine and caring. She is a huge advocate for best nursing practices. She supports us, keeps us accountable for patient care and educates us along the way.
Ms. Bindhu Varghese has taken steps to prevent pressure ulcers in NICU. When she was the acting head nurse there were no pressure ulcers in the NICU.
Words alone are not enough to explain all she has done. As busy as charge nurses are these days, somehow she found time to assist the nurses to change the bed. It showed a great example of the team player she was. Her passion is exceptional.
Thanks, Ms. Bindhu Varghese, for all you do every day. You are appreciated.
