During the last 15 plus years, between my late husband and myself, we have spent too many days at Banner Desert Hospital. I have always found the nursing staff to be kind, caring and helpful.
But this last time Bonnie Rees went beyond all expectations. I was admitted feeling pretty sick. Bonnie was the attending nurse, and she had to cope with a cranky, in pain, feeling sorry for herself old woman. Kindness and patience along with a good dose of understanding was my first introduction to Bonnie. For the next three days, she made my stay pleasant. I complained that my friend could not find my pajamas at my house and Bonnie showed up with clothes not only for me to sleep in, but also to walk around in.
I have a thrush infection in my mouth, which makes eating less than pleasurable. Bonnie urged me gently to eat and helped me with options and by reminding me not to miss the deadline for ordering meals. I whined about craving a root beer float, Bonnie went to the cafeteria and looked for root beer, and when she couldn't find any at the cafeteria, somewhere she found a root beer float popsicle. When my friends were not available, Bonnie Rees was my friend, family, and cheering section. She spoke to my son in California, more than once, as he was planning to come here.
I hate and fear needles; Bonnie made getting stuck a fun experience, she made me laugh when I wanted to cry. Bonnie stayed after her shift to chat with me and knowing that I have a severe hearing problem she spoke slowly and loud enough that communicating with her was always a pleasure. Thank you so much, Bonnie!
