I was only 28 weeks pregnant when I had an appointment with my OB/GYN. I thought it would be my last appointment before I gave birth to my son. Upon my arrival at the doctors' office, they noticed that I had high blood pressure and the doctor sent me very quickly to the hospital. I was extremely scared and I was so worried about my son's life. As soon as they admitted me, I felt uncomfortable and I wasn't prepared. The doctors did everything to dilate me so I could give birth to my son by pushing instead of a C-section. I waited three days in the hospital before I gave birth. Brandy made me feel like it wasn't my fault for getting preeclampsia. She helped me to calm down to the point that I was able to decide to tell the doctors I was ready for a C-section. She helped me to get ready for surgery and while getting my epidural I was so scared and nervous I couldn't stay still I was shaking so much. But Brandy hugged me and held my head while I was crying. She hugged me in a way I knew I was going to be alright.
My son didn't cry right away and I knew something was wrong. They rushed him to the NICU and I couldn't hug him or be skin-to-skin. This was the worst and happiest day of my life. By the time my C-section was over it was 8 p.m. and I knew Brandy's shift was over. She helped me change my gown and asked me why I was crying so much, was I in pain? I told her I just wanted to see my son. Before taking me to my room, she took me to see my son. From the bed, I could only see him from the door and he was connected to all different types of machines. I was so thankful to have him in my life. I saw that Brandy was crying along with me and I realized that she is a one of a kind nurse. After going to my room sadly she wasn't my nurse again, but that didn't stop her for coming to visit me every day, as well as visiting my son. I will never forget the kindness of her heart. Seeing Brandy love her job so much has inspired me to go back to high school, get my diploma, and go to nursing school.
