My husband was admitted to the UNMC emergency room for his fourth time since the end of August. It was on a Friday, due to a fall in our home. He has liver problems and had a high ammonia level and was very sick. He was moved to Clarkson 5th floor that Friday night and his nurse was Breanne Thomas.
I came up to see him Saturday morning and he told me he was getting released. I couldn't believe it. Breanne happened to be in the room and she said that was true. He was still confused, his color was not right and had hadn't even got out of bed yet. I told him football was about to start and turned on his TV. He turned it off and said that these were repeat college games from yesterday. I told him that college doesn't play on Friday. Breanne happened to be in the room when he started arguing with me and stating that it was Sunday. Breanne then left the room. I soon followed and told her there was no way he was getting released today. She totally agreed with me and put a call in for the doctor.
Breanne came in with the doctor, who had never met my husband, and he wanted to know my reasoning for keeping him. I told him that he thinks it is Sunday and that the reason he was here was dueto his fall and his ammonia level. I also, told him that he hadn't even been out of bed yet. Breanne told him how confused he was in comments he made to her.
Breanne stood by my decision and my husband was not released that Saturday. My husband was very angry with me and again she overheard some of our conversation and left the room. She was his nurse that whole weekend. As my husband started getting better and back to himself, she made comments to me that she was seeing the man I told her about.
The two of them got along very well and gave each other a hard time. Breanne was very caring and took the best care of him. She had to give him an enema and he even nicknamed her the "Enema Queen" because she had to give more of them that day.
Breanne Thomas is very friendly, easy to get along with and does a great job making sure that the patient is comfortable.
