Brianne had a patient who had revealed to me that he and his wife's 50th anniversary was on that day and they were supposed to be in Hawaii celebrating. This particular patient had fallen and broken his back and required surgery. Later in the day, Bri came up to me and said, "I think we should do something for this patient and his wife since it was their 50th anniversary." First, I thought it was very special that she had remembered this. I told her that it would be very nice of her to do something for them.
The patient left for surgery that afternoon and later I noticed a sign on the patient's room that said "ALOHA" on bright yellow paper with two paper fishes in each corner. Bri had some help from the other nurses to decorate his room in a Hawaiian theme. They had a palm tree blow-up balloon, a blow-up parrot, and streamers hanging from the ceiling with the Hawaiin theme. They even put two colorful paper fish decorations kissing each other on our wall computer door. They hung green streamers from the patient's light in his room that looked like a hula skirt.
When the patient got back from surgery that night, he and his wife were so surprised and happy. Then today, Bri bought decorative glasses, put orange juice and sprite in them, and then put a small umbrella in them. Another nurse brought a cake that said happy 50th anniversary, they got them a card and all of the nurses signed it and we all went in and surprised them with all of this. Bri walked in the room first, she put Hawaiian music on her phone and started dancing like a hula dancer and told both of them congratulations. The patient and his wife were so happy and excited again! Bri then made a speech about how it is so awesome that they have been together for 50 years and how she really was happy to be able to celebrate with them. Bri went above and beyond, and I know the patient and his wife will never forget this. I am so happy to have Bri on the Wesley Team!
