My beautiful wife arrived in the ICU. In 1997 and 2000 she beat Hodgkin's Lymphoma. This time, she was in toxic shock from a bacterial infection (Step B) and was quickly put into a medical coma and maximum life support. She celebrated her 53rd birthday 4 days later with 60 pounds of fluid added to her 155-pound frame and fighting for her life. No options left. My wife has yet to wake up, but I am comforted and impressed by the care she has received from everyone, but especially Brittany Roy.
Brittany has been my "safe harbor" during this experience. She has a maturity and quiet confidence way beyond her years. Her situational awareness, planning and judgment, decision making, and communication skills are envied. Her systems monitoring skills are superb. The moment my wife could tolerate a reduction in meds (many of them being quite harmful), Brittany was dialing it back. She quickly and efficiently grew to understand my wife, sorted needs and tailored her treatment. She was a role model for my 18-year-old daughter and 20-year-old son to observe, talk to, and a source of support as they ponder their next steps in life. Brittany is already contributing so much "good" to the world. As a multi-cancer survivor, myself, I have spent too much time in hospitals, good hospitals, for my age. Brittany is very special. My MVP. She definitely has the "Healers Touch" and a bright future.
