Candace has a huge heart and will do anything to make things easier for patients. She tries to utilize social work and dietary to obtain samples or help for her patients. She has often brought in certain candies that a patient may have mentioned they liked and weren't able to find. She has brought in food for patients such as meatballs when a patient asked for them. She has visited patients in the hospital or at home when they have asked to see her because they are no longer able to come in. Patients and families feel very comfortable with Candace and will bring questions and problems to her that they will not address with their provider. She goes above and beyond trying to make everyone feel comfortable and in trying to address their needs. ... One of Candaces' patients was receiving difficult chemotherapy and had radiation. This patient had many side effects and was quite discouraged and wanting to stop treatment. She encouraged him and worked with the providers on symptom management which I believe is what made him continue on his treatment. She also spent a lot of time on the phone with pharmacies and insurance when he had difficulty obtaining his pain medications. She was finally able to get him the medication that he needed. ... Candace performs energy therapy on several patients on her day off from work. Many patients rely on this service from her. One advanced breast cancer patient in particular enjoyed the therapy and felt better with it. Candace worked closely with the patient to coordinate both their schedules so that the patient would not have to miss a week. When the patient was going to Florida for 2 weeks the patient was very nervous about missing her energy therapy. Candace gave her an energy rock that the patient could hold onto and made sure to schedule her on the return from Florida. The patient became terminal upon her return from Florida and ended up in inpatient hospice. Candace visited that patient and family in the hospital and was told by the husband that the rock meant everything to his wife while they were away, and that she held onto it right up until she died. I think that comfort and small act of kindness meant a lot to the family. ... Candace cares about patients, families, and staff. She will do anything in her power to get patients what they need. Patients and staff go to her with problems. She is easy to confide in and I think people just feel that. She has a way of making people laugh and patients miss her laughter when she is off. She is always thinking about ways to make our practice better for the patients. She is very knowledgeable and is happy to answer questions. She will always ask questions to understand something new. She has excellent computer skills and helps the rest of the staff when we need help figuring the computer out. Candace is a valued member of our staff. She works hard and tries to do everything asked of her. I do not think she realizes the positive impact she makes on our practice or on the lives of her patients.
