Carolyn was nominated for the extra care and concern she provided to ensure a patient had a clean bill of health before returning home.
When Carolyn's patient was discharged, the patient's daughter noticed something wasn't right. Her mother was still struggling to breathe. The patient was in the hospital for weeks due to breathing problems and heart fibrillation. She was also a metastatic cancer patient.
Sensing something was wrong, the daughter urged Carolyn to call the physician to order an X-ray of the lungs. An ultrasound was done the day before and the patient's lungs were clear, but still, the daughter refused to take her mother home. Listening to her concerns and wanting to help, Carolyn stayed longer to get an X-ray ordered.
After multiple attempts, an X-ray was taken and revealed the patient's left lung was filled with liquid. After the patient was re-admitted and the liquid was removed, she was able to breathe easier.
"I know my mom is very sick, but I also know that you can feel when somebody does a job with love, passion and a caring attitude. In every room, it says 'Our goal is to provide you with exceptional care and service,' and guess what? Carolyn did. I can't thank her enough for it!"
