Cassandra has been a nurse for approximately a little over a year and chose the Medical Unit to begin her nursing career. As we all know, the Medical Unit in any hospital is a challenge for seasoned nurses and she, being a new graduate nurse, has jumped into her new career with enthusiasm. She has adeptly met the challenges of a busy Medical Unit. She has shown repeatedly that she is profoundly dedicated and responsible. She is always willing to work extra in times of staffing crunches and has recently accepted the challenge to train as a relief Charge Nurse, with which she has done an incredible job. She is respected by her team members, physicians and members of other units.
Another goal of hers was to be a nurse in Africa. She submitted an application to Nurses for Africa to spend 10 days in Zambia and was accepted. She will make this journey sometime between June and September. She is the personification of calmness in tough situations. An example is that she was a Charge Nurse on a day that the Medical Unit was short nurses and without any questions she took patients, assisted team members and actively participated in discharge rounds with Case Management. At the end of the shift, there had been six discharges and six admits. She stayed focused, calm and continued to provide excellent care to her patients and a viable source for her team.
Bright, dedicated and skilled, she is my unequivocal nomination for this very distinguished award.
