I was really impressed by the level of dedication and care that I received from Cat Alexander RN during my stay on 6A. I had a lot of questions for my surgeon and was awaiting word on my discharge plan. I discussed my desire to speak with the surgeon and asked Cat if she could contact him. She was persistent in trying to get the surgeon to come talk with me. She treated me with dignity and respect, and helped advocate for me when I needed information that I was not able to get on my own from the surgeon. I needed to know a discharge plan because I was scheduled for the transfer student program at SUNY Oswego the following day and needed to know if I would be able to attend.
Cat was able to not only provide excellent nursing care, but she truly listened to my dreams and goals and worked with me to get discharged upon being medically cleared. She held true to her word that she would work on my discharge papers at 7am once her shift started the following day if the surgeons approved discharge. She thoroughly explained my discharge instructions and helped me get transportation. Due to her tenacity and advocacy, as well as putting me, the patient, first, I got all my questions answered, was discharged, and was able to attend my college program.
Cat viewed me as more than a number or a diagnosis. She saw me as a young woman that was struggling medically, but who had life ambitions and goals, and who was trying to achieve a life of meaning. I felt heard, validated, and understood by Cat. She is an excellent nurse and deserves recognition for the quality of care she provides her patients.
