Upon leaving for the evening, Cathie Lowery found an elderly patient in a wheelchair waiting in the lobby for a cab ride. It was late, Cathie was one of the last, if not the last, employee leaving for the evening.
Cathie showed compassion for the patient by sitting with the patient to wait with her. She learned the patient had already waited 1 ½ hours. Also, she was on oxygen and she didn't have a whole lot of time left before her tank would be empty. Cathie contacted the cab service but was told they were extremely busy and it would be a while before a driver would be available to pick the patient up. The patient had no family and no neighbors to assist with transportation.
Cathie continued to call the cab service every 15 minutes until finally, she offered to take the patient home. The patient did agree to be taken home which was less than 5 miles down the road. Network security happened to be patrolling the parking lot at the time Cathie wheeled the patient to her vehicle. The security officer assisted Cathie with getting the patient and her wheelchair into the car.
Cathie showed compassion and concern for the patient's needs. She was diligent in her efforts. In the end, the patient arrived safely inside her home which was no small task on Cathie's part.
Thank you, Cathie, for doing the right thing for a patient in need!
