While in the ICU, our family experienced several wonderful nurses and staff. Being present for every shift change, I was able to meet and get to know all who helped care for our family member. The nurse that really "took the cake" during his stay was Cathy. Cathy was extremely caring and attentive not only to the patient but really for his entire family.
While not originally from the US, there was a cultural and language barrier with most of his family. Cathy went above and beyond to explain everything that was going on, in terms, everyone was able to understand. On a couple of occasions, the family thought of questions for particular doctors after they had already left. Cathy was kind enough to call the doctors to get the answers the family needed. With one of the calls, the doctor agreed to come back to the room to talk to the family. Cathy stayed with the family and explained all of the options the doctor was discussing and the risks associated with each. She very patiently answered questions for all present members of our very large family.
Cathy was so much more than a nurse for our family, she helped comfort the family and give them the information they needed to make medical decisions for the present, as well as the future. Again, he had many wonderful caregivers and was a medical wonder while in ICU, but it was Cathy who proved herself to be a true DAISY Nurse.
CHI is blessed to have Cathy on their team. Thank you for your guidance and dedication. You are incredible!
