Registered nurse Cathy Tappon at Mayo Clinic Health System – Chippewa Valley was
recently honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Tappon was nominated for the special care she provided to a young patient in Bloomer. Tappon took the time to make special gowns for the patient from oversized T-shirts that she and certified nursing
assistant Betty Rubenzer purchased for the patient and celebrated the patient’s milestones
during her stay in Bloomer.

“I like to find a connection with each of my patients, it is what I find most rewarding about my career,” says Tappon. “I am proud to accept this recognition on behalf of all the nurses of our
Chippewa Valley facility who give of themselves each and every day here in the workplace and within the community.”

Mayo Clinic Health System is among more than 1275 healthcare organizations
committed to The DAISY Award program. “It’s important that our nurses know their
work is highly valued, and The DAISY Foundation provides a way for us to do that,”
said Lynn Frank, chief nursing officer and vice president at Mayo Clinic Health System
in Eau Claire.
