Chad displays a mirror image of the JPS mission, vision, and values. The best way I can describe him is that he has the biggest heart for every patient he comes into contact with. Whether they are a high-profile patient, a combative inmate, or a lonely homeless patient, he treats them as if they are a family member. He truly cares for our community and every member of it who crosses his path.
Chad is a highly qualified nurse who places art lines, runs balloon pumps, manages CRRT patients and is one of our most experienced open heart nurses, all of which require specialized education. He has been promoted to Hall Lead because he constantly leads by example. He is a role model on and off the unit. He teaches the absolute best and safest nursing practices to all of his orientees but also to experienced staff.
Chad had a patient not too long ago who was admitted from a nursing home. The only family he had was a niece who lived out of state. He was in the hospital for several weeks. Chad saw that his patient was very quiet and sad one day. He asked the patient what was wrong and the patient told him he was "just depressed." Chad realized that it was his patient's birthday but no family had been to visit him since he had been in the hospital. Chad jumped into action and went to the gift shop and bought him a whole spread. He bought him balloons, a small gift and a card that he had the unit sign. When he gave it to his patient, he had the whole unit go into his room and sing him Happy Birthday. The patient started to cry and said this was the best birthday he has had. He told Chad that it had been years since he received anything for his birthday and he was overcome with emotion. He thanked Chad for making this birthday so memorable and special.
