Charles went above and beyond the call of duty to help arrange and coordinate care for one of our young sailors from Japan. As a bit of background, a sailor stationed in Japan was home in the Detroit area on leave when he had a syncopal episode. Through a series of subsequent events, he was stranded in the continental US trying to coordinate his care through local providers in town. With less that a week's notice, he received orders to report to Naval Station Great Lakes the day before Christmas Eve so that he could undergo further evaluation with the FHCC.
Starting on the weekend prior to a short holiday week, Charles achieved the monumental task of coordinating the assignment of a case manager, placement of the appropriate consults, and arranging to have the sailor's orders changed so that a young man suffering from random syncopal events could remain at home with this family for the holiday. Such a task would have been difficult for someone with strictly administrative duties, but Charles was able to coordinate all of this in addition to continuing his clinical duties in the Internal Medicine Clinic despite what was otherwise a skeleton crew of staff working because of multiple people on holiday leave. His professionalism and caring for patients is truly unmatched, and he is an irreplaceable asset to our clinic.
