The nights that I spent at Audubon with my father allowed me to observe the finest qualities in a caregiver. They can honor their patients with knowledge, care, compassion, respect and dignity. I witnessed a nurse with the knowledge to recognize the slightest change in vital signs. I observed a nurse that cared for her patient and made sure all changes were addressed. This nurse showed GENUINE concern for the treatment of my Dad. She displayed a level of compassion that is usually reserved for "family" members. With all the physical failing of the body at 80 years old, this nurse never allowed my father to feel his dignity was in question. All the above are reason enough for Chelsea Holman to be recognized. However, my reasons for nominating her are: She gave my dad comfort; she treated him with respect and honor he deserved. Chelsea knew her job and did it well and in a professional manner. She also touched me with her understanding that her patient was my "hero", my "mentor" and my "Dad". I love "who and "what" Chelsea is.
