My family had the pleasure of having Chelsey Clark as our daughter's nurse when she was in the CCU for 4 weeks. My 14-year old daughter was diagnosed with a variant form of Guillain-Barre, Miller-Fisher syndrome which left her paralyzed and on life support. Chelsey took extraordinary care of her. She became a friend, encourager, and supporter of not just my daughter, but the entire family.
She was a translator of "physician speak". She would explain to us in detail her plan of care; patiently answered all of our questions; and addressed each one of our concerns. She treated my daughter like I imagine she would treat her own. She encouraged her to move her legs and sit up in bed when no one else could. Chelsey brought out the strength in my daughter that she didn't think she had.
My daughter had to re-learn how to move, sit up, walk and eat; and Chelsey was there every step of the way. She even helped wash her hair because the itching was unbearable, one of the many side effects. My daughter did not want anyone else taking care of her because she had become so fond of Chelsey. Every milestone in her recovery had Chelsey in it. I truly believe my daughter recovered so quickly because of Chelsey. She was the light, the sunshine to our darkest days. Still months later, my daughter asks to visit Chelsey on the unit.
Chelsey radiates compassion in every interaction she has with her patients and their families.
