Congratulations from Mary Stowe RN MS NEA-BC Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer and members of the Legacy Team

Cherie Harland is a very caring compassionate nurse who displays all of the criteria that makes her eligible for the DAISY Award. As a nurse she is Caring, Compassionate and always puts the needs of her patients and families first. As a charge nurse, she is always available to help out her co-workers and is always upbeat and positive when she is in charge. She has such an uncanny ability to always see the positive in every situation that may come her way. Whether it be 20 admissions or 20 discharges when she here I know that the day will run smoothly and we will get through it with fun and smiles.
As a Team Leader, she is always available to talk and is truly available to her staff. She has a huge responsibility with schedule and seems to be able to always make sure that people get the schedule they want and if they don’t she will communicate that she had to move us and does it with a smile. There is one particular day that stands out in my mind and why I feel that she deserves this award. She was in her office and dropped by the unit in her way out to check to see how everyone is doing. I had a very busy patient that was monopolizing a lot of my time and when she saw me, she took one look at me and said, “Hold on I’m coming to help you.” She dropped her purse and set her bags down, immediately came over and helped me with this patient for the next hour and a half. She stayed until 6:30 PM making sure that I was caught up and helped assist me with this Hem/Onc patient. She helped me change a dressing, place a Foley and assisted with the rest of the care until I was done. In this hour and ½ she displayed compassion for the poor little girl who was very sick. She displayed respect by recognizing without me telling her I needed help. She knew what to do. She displayed excellence by striving to be the best. She truly is an extraordinary nurse who I am proud to work with everyday.
