Cheryl was recognized by several staff members and selected for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award by the Nurse Advisory Council for consistently demonstrating compassion and respect, creating an environment of trust, and promoting professional development.
Some of her nominations read:
"I recently went through a very traumatic experience. I found out that my baby no longer had a heartbeat as I neared the end of my pregnancy. Not only did Cheryl work with me to adjust my schedule to accommodate my situation, but more importantly she treated me like family. She followed up with me to make sure I was doing okay and gave me the resources I needed to get through my loss. Even prior to this, however, Cheryl was a great manager. She makes herself available to both shifts by staying late or coming in early. I want to recognize her for her compassion and leadership."
"Cheryl is passionate about her commitment to the moms and babies at Oishei Children's Hospital and throughout our community. She is invested in her team - helping nurses and staff find their strengths and passions both in the workplace and beyond. Cheryl encourages a sense of belonging and the ability to create change for the betterment of our patients. Cheryl is the epitome of a leader and I am honored to learn and work with her."
"Cheryl is a very hardworking, dedicated manager who has made huge strides in promoting our Mother Baby Unit and Oishei Children's Hospital as a whole, as well as making a difference in the lives of families in our community. She has worked hard to build up our lactation team over the last year. Cheryl wants what is best for our moms and families and encourages all staff to be their very best. Cheryl's enthusiasm in her day-to-day responsibilities, along with her commitment to staff and families, is exemplary. She is a respected leader who has made many positive changes for her staff, the hospital and families in Western New York. I am proud to know her and to call her my manager."
"Cheryl is continuously advocating for patients and staff. On a floor like the Mother Baby Unit, the needs of our patients vary greatly, but Cheryl always pushes us to meet the needs of all of our patients because it's the right thing to do. This is a very rewarding job, but sometimes it can rip your heart out. Cheryl consistently celebrates our highs and supports us in our lows. Cheryl truly embodies a DAISY Nurse Leader."
Thank you, Cheryl, for all that you do!
