...Seven years ago, when I was a new nurse to BDH, Chris immediately made me feel welcome and glad to be a part of the Maternal Newborn Unit. She nicknamed me "Cinnamon" and it always put a smile on my face. She has compassion and a way with new moms and dads that is genuine. I can't say how many times I've walked into the nursery to see her smiling and encouraging new fathers as she teaches them to bathe their newborn for the first time or how to change their first diaper. Even though she has done this countless times, she never seems to downplay the excitement or act hasty during the process. Her demeanor is endearing and she has a wealth of knowledge. I feel she is like a guiding light for many of the other nurses and doctors in the nursery and maintains a sense of calm, with a smile when days can be "stormy". Chris truly demonstrates a love for her job when I see her "chatting" to the little premie babies or giving heart felt hugs to the tired, emotional new moms. Her care is thorough and nurturing. Chris is solid as a rock and sweet as cherry pie, a truly WONDERFUL nurse.

...Chris Bies is the nurse all the patients remember from their stay at BDH. She is the perfect mix of clinical skill, knowledge and is a wonderful patient advocate. She has a way of making her patients feel right at home with her humor, all the while, providing exceptional patient care. She is a resource for all nurses and is our first choice for orienting new employees to our nursery. Here are just a couple of the many stories that show what a truly compassionate and dedicated nurse Chris is.

First, a young, single mother from another country delivered unexpectedly, early in her pregnancy. She had no family or friends here with her during her extended NICU stay. When it was finally time to go, Chris not only bought her a suitcase for her belongings, but drove her to the airport on her day off!

Yet another couple confided in me that during morning rounds with the Doctor, they would listen in on the day's plans. "Chris feels like family- she always knew just what our daughter needed for the day. Even the doctors listen to her advice because she really knows her stuff.

Chris also keeps our nursery running smoothly on a day to day basis- ordering papers and supplies (most of us don't know how to order) and keeping everything stocked and ready for anything. She is a role model for our department and Bozeman Deaconess is lucky to have her on staff!
