On Wednesday, Feb. 19, my mother was admitted to the Mercy Skilled Nursing Center. It had already been a trying week since her fall. My mother fell before midnight Feb. 16. I did not find her until 15 hours later.

By the grace of God, she is doing very well for an 83 year old woman who laid on the floor for 15 hrs. Being at the SNC is quite different from being on the oncology unit in the hospital. My sweet mother is a 2 year breast cancer survivor. I had nominated many nurses from the oncology floor before. We felt at times like we were floundering not knowing what was normal. We were used to having someone check on my mother every 30 minutes or less.

I had the pleasure of meeting Chris on Saturday. I had called to check on my mom since I was not able to see her until after Church that evening. Chris was amazing! She was caring, compassionate, kind and very knowledgeable. She shared with me what to look for in my mom's emotional state and things she might do. She took the time to explain everything to me. I knew my mom was in very good hands. Kind, loving hands.

I feel Chris went above and beyond letting me know what to expect, how the SNC works, etc. I was thrilled to know she would be taking care of my mother on Sunday too. I only wish she could take care of her everyday! When Chris took the time with me to answer all of my questions and concerns, I felt peace for the first time since my Mom moved from the hospital.

Chris is one of the reasons the SNC works. She looks at her position there as having a purpose. That purpose is to be the VERY BEST she can be for not only the patient, but for their loved ones.
