Christina has taken on any challenge presented to her. She is active throughout the organization by serving on the Unit Practice Council, where she is challenging the members to improve processes on the unit. Christina is active on the Nursing Informatics Council, where she advocates for Meditech changes to improve nursing workflow and has been a Super-User for most of our large scale roll-outs, such as I-mobile, EBCD, and Pyxis. Christina serves as relief Charge Nurse, stepping in to lead the daily operations of the unit, improve quality measures and patient experience. Christina is also a preceptor for students and new hires, plus she is frequently leaned on to mentor others during crisis situations on the unit. In addition to wearing all of these hats, Christina sets an example for others through her own professional development by being a multiple year PACE nurse, holding her national med/surg certification, and currently pursuing her MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner degree.
Christina goes above and beyond to ensure her patients are well cared for, especially over the holidays when they do not have the luxury of being home with their families. The 6th floor has had several long-term patients and Christina went out of her way, spending her own money to make sure they had a Christmas tree and decorations in their rooms, as well as gifts to open. She has helped supply them with clothes and blankets to wear during their stay and even laundered these clothes as needed. Even when one of our long-term patients was transferred to another floor, she still made sure to do the same for her.
Christina not only takes care of her patients but also her coworkers, by making birthday boxes for each employee to receive on their special day. She often supplies snacks and candy for staff to enjoy throughout the day. She helps to coordinate and attends all of our unit's work family fun days and community service activities - whether it be feeding the homeless, painting with a twist, paintball or baby showers, Christina is never one to miss out on an event. Her enthusiasm and energy are contagious and she is also the official recruiter for the unit, as she frequently attends our RN Jubilees to tell our new graduates all about life at NFRMC.
As you can see, Christina is a wonderful example of a nurse who cares about developing herself, her team, and her relationships with the patients that are entrusted in her care. Christina is a true DAISY Nurse!
