Christine is a professional who staff describe as a life-long learner. She is described by her peers as being calm, precise, professional and above all, helpful to whoever asks. Several describe her as compassionate and kind to all, responding to co-worker's requests for help on a dime, any time.In one story, a colleague was watching Christine perform a hospice admission. The patient's family member was expressing how upset and frustrated she was with everything. Christine dealt with the situation and softly talked with the family member with such finesse, and calmed her down and lightly held her hand. I observed first hand her love and commitment to patients and families shining through and through. In another example, a family member wrote "we couldn't have asked for a more compassionate, calming person-with great patience. She was wonderful with my father-in-law and was able to effectively handle all our questions. She explained what we could expect from hospice and what they could provide. We felt so reassured. Christine is a terrific person and a gem." In yet another family letter, Christine was praised again for her skilled and gentle approach to explaining hospice care to a frightened family.
Nominations from peers and families echoed these qualities: professional, kind, gentle, took the time, could not have asked for a more compassionate person, calming, has tremendous patience, thorough, made us feel reassured, a terrific person and nurse, valuable, puts her heart into the work and relationships, touches lives, a gem.
