While in recovery after surgery, Christine did more than her job; she demonstrated empathy, passion, and concern. Utilizing empathetic inquiry, she learned that I lost my father the previous week and was the caregiver for my mother with dementia after her accident two weeks ago. To say I have been stressed is an understatement.
Normally I keep things to myself and don't share because after three tours in combat I feel I can handle things myself; not true. I was emotionally tapped out, emotionally isolated and just done with people and things. That is until Christine helped me realize I was not alone, and she truly cared. Some of our conversations were personal and only for us; however, something about her genuineness, compassion, and sincerity allowed me to open up and feel comfortable being honest with her. She went beyond her job duties of post-operation care, connected with a person deeply distraught, provided hope without judgment and help me continue at the moment.
I lost my best friend after Iraq, but I felt his love and compassion in Christine and wanted her to be recognized for her intuition, proper handling of a person grieving and genuine care that kept and keeps me going. Her concern, care, and compassion at that moment epitomize excellence and genuineness. She assisted me to be open and honest that I was emotionally drained and needed to take care of myself. There was something about how genuine she was that allowed me to let down my barriers and be honest and open to her assistance and concern. Thank you, Christine, for caring and helping the Marine, soldier, and Sailor when he needed it.
